CSWAB is proud to be a co-signator on the Indigenous Statement that has been integrated into the new preamble to the United Nations Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty. The draft now includes the following passage:
“Mindful of the suffering of and unacceptable harm caused to the victims of the use of nuclear weapons (Hibakusha) as well as of those affected by the testing of nuclear weapons, and recognizing the disproportionate impact of nuclear weapon activities on indigenous peoples”
The joint statement, signed by groups from around the world, was organized by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons – Australia. The new draft of the whole treaty is expected on Tuesday, June 27 and the passage is expected to remain part of the final document.
